In the seven-member ensemble of BTS, no member has carried the joint identity of vocalist, dancer, and solo Billboard chart-topper like Jeon Jungkook, known to the band's fans simply as Jungkook or the Golden Maknae (Korean for "youngest"). The Busan-born youngest of two brothers, who was scouted by multiple Korean entertainment agencies at age 13 after appearing on the audition show Superstar K, who chose Big Hit Entertainment because of an impromptu rap by Kim Namjoon, and who at twenty-six became the first Korean solo artist with a US Billboard Hot 100 #1 with "Seven" featuring Latto in July 2023 — is one of the most globally recognised vocalists of modern K-pop. Behind every solo single sat a deeply ordinary family in Busan.
The Family's Roots: Busan, South Korea
The Jeon family is Korean, from Busan, the second-largest city in South Korea, on the southeastern coast. Jungkook was born there on 1 September 1997.
His Parents
Jungkook's parents have been deliberately private. His father has been described in interviews as a small-business owner; his mother is a homemaker. Both have stayed out of public-facing roles throughout BTS's career.
His Elder Brother: Jeon Junghyun
Jeon Junghyun, Jungkook's elder brother (older by about three years), was previously the family's most-known relative outside of Jungkook. He has stayed mostly private but is widely known to be close to his younger brother.
His Education and Path
Jungkook attended Baek Yang Elementary School and Baekyang Middle School in Busan. He appeared on Superstar K3 in 2011 at age 13, where he was eliminated in the early rounds — but received offers from seven Korean entertainment agencies after the show. He chose Big Hit Entertainment after meeting RM and being convinced by RM's rap performance. He moved to Seoul to train.

What the Jeon Family Story Teaches Us
A small-business father. A homemaker mother. One elder brother. From one Busan family came the youngest member of BTS — and the first Korean solo artist to reach No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100. The Jeon family tree is small, recent, and deliberately private.
For every family — large or small, famous or otherwise — the Jungkook story carries the same lesson. Sometimes there are just three pieces — two parents and one sibling — and that is the entire close family. Brevity of the tree is not weakness of it. Write down those few names with as much care as another family writes hundreds. The depth of the tree is in the truth of each entry, not in their total count.
