The Family's Roots: Lebanese Maronite Christians

The Slim family is Lebanese Maronite Christian. Carlos's father Julian Slim Haddad (1887 – 1953) emigrated from Lebanon to Mexico in 1902 at age 14 to escape Ottoman conscription. He built a Mexico City dry-goods empire ("La Estrella del Oriente").
