What the Das Family Story Teaches Us

A rice-farmer father. A homemaker mother. Six children. A youngest daughter who started as a striker on village boys' football teams. From one small Assam village called Dhing came India's first IAAF world-track gold.

For every family — large or small, famous or otherwise — the Hima Das story carries the same lesson. Sometimes the village name itself becomes part of a person's identity. Hima Das is universally known as the "Dhing Express" — the village of Dhing is on her tree as much as any family member. Write down the place names. They are part of the identity.
