The Selangor monarchy was founded by Sultan Salehuddin of Selangor in 1766. He was the eldest son of Opu Daeng Chelak, a Bugis prince from the Kingdom of Luwu in South Sulawesi. The Bugis people had significant influence in the region during the 18th century, and Sultan Salehuddin's establishment of the Selangor Sultanate marked the beginning of a new royal lineage in the area.   • Sultan Salahuddin Abdul Aziz Shah Al-Haj (r. 1960–2001): He served as the eighth Sultan of Selangor and was also the eleventh Yang di-Pertuan Agong (King) of Malaysia from 1999 until his death in 2001 .

  • Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al-Haj (r. 2001–present): The current and ninth Sultan of Selangor, known for his contributions to the state's development and his active role in promoting cultural and religious harmony.


🌿 Succession Hierarchy

The Selangor royal succession follows a hereditary system, with titles and positions passed down through the male line. The current line of succession includes:

  1. Raja Muda (Crown Prince): Tengku Amir Shah ibni Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah Al-Haj, born in 1990, is the only son of the current Sultan and was proclaimed Crown Prince in 2002 .

The royal family's succession practices ensure the continuity of leadership and the preservation of traditions within the state.
