He was re-elected in 2009 from the Ajmer constituency. During his tenure in the central government, he served as the Minister of State for Communications and Information Technology and later as the Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Corporate Affairs. 

In the 2018 Rajasthan Legislative Assembly elections, Pilot won from the Tonk constituency and was appointed as the Deputy Chief Minister of Rajasthan.

In July 2020, Pilot led a rebellion against the Ashok Gehlot-led Rajasthan government, claiming the support of 30 MLAs. This led to a political crisis in the state, and he was subsequently removed from his positions as Deputy Chief Minister and state party president.

In September 2012, Sachin Pilot became the first Union minister of India to be commissioned as an officer in the Territorial Army, fulfilling his desire to follow his father's footsteps in serving the armed forces.
